Terms of service

Effective date: 22 September 2026.

1. Agreement

These terms of service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("you", "your", or the "User") and Makeri, VAT IT13457560962, operating Crocotaste (the "Company", "we", "us"), for your use of the website at crocotaste.com, the Crocotaste GitHub App and the dashboard (together, the "Service").

By installing the App, signing in, or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms and the privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Accepting electronically (by installing, signing in or clicking through) has the same effect as a signature under applicable law, including the EU eIDAS Regulation and Italian law (D.Lgs. 82/2005).

These Terms are written in English, which is the only binding version. We may change them; the effective date above moves when we do, and continued use after a change means you accept it.

2. Definitions

  • Installation: an installation of the Crocotaste GitHub App on a GitHub account or organization, covering the repositories its owner chose.
  • Member: a User whose GitHub account can access an Installation and who has linked it to their Crocotaste account; Members share the Installation's dashboard and the account's Balance.
  • Review: one run of the Service on one pull request: a summary comment, inline findings with suggestions, a check run and, on a clean pass, an approval. For billing purposes one pull request is one Review, which covers two reads by the language model; every later push is free, and a further read requested by a member with @crocotaste review or Re-run is one Review.
  • Finding: one reviewed issue: the value, the token or convention it should follow, and the citation into your references.
  • Balance: the number of Reviews the GitHub account behind an Installation (an organization or a user) may still run, in three buckets: trial, plan and pack. It belongs to that account, so it survives uninstalling and reinstalling the App.
  • Plan: a monthly subscription (Starter, Team or Business) that refills the plan bucket each billing cycle.
  • Pack: a one-time purchase adding 25 Reviews, valid for 12 months from purchase.
  • DESIGN.md: the file in your repository that holds your design system's tokens, components, conventions and decisions; the only place the Service reads decisions from.
  • Customer content: your repositories' contents as read at review time, and anything you write in commands addressed to the Service.

3. The Service

3.1 What it does

Crocotaste reviews UI changes in pull requests against your repository's own design system. For each reviewed pull request it reads the diff and the design references from GitHub, runs deterministic checks, makes at most one call per run to a language model when the checks did not already cover the change, and posts: one summary comment edited in place, at most three AI findings and the deterministic findings as inline comments with suggested fixes and a prompt for your coding agent, a check run with machine-readable output, and an approval on a clean pass. @crocotaste ignore <reason> dismisses a finding and replies with the next step (for an AI finding, a drafted decision for your DESIGN.md); @crocotaste review re-runs.

3.2 Read-only by design

The Service never writes to your repository's code. Its GitHub App holds read access to repository contents and metadata and write access to pull requests, checks and issues. The only things it creates are the comments, check runs and approvals above and, only when you ask for it on the setup page, one issue containing instructions for your coding agent. Any change to your code, including changes made by tooling you run on the Service's suggestions or prompts, is made by you, outside the Service, at your own risk.

What the Service reads is what your repositories contain. You are responsible for that content, including secrets, credentials, personal data and third-party confidential material inside it, and for keeping out of a reviewed repository anything that may not be processed as these Terms and the privacy policy describe. The Service does not scan for or filter out such material before processing.

3.3 Findings are advisory

Findings are the output of deterministic rules and a language model. They may be incomplete or wrong. They do not replace review by your team, and they do not decide what merges; your people and your branch protection rules do. We do not guarantee that the Service will catch every design drift, that a green check means a change is correct, or any business outcome.

3.4 DESIGN.md is yours

The Service keeps no design knowledge of its own. What it reviews against is what your repository contains; a decision takes effect by being merged into your DESIGN.md, by you. We do not edit that file.

3.5 Dependence on GitHub and the model provider

The Service runs on GitHub's App platform and uses a third-party language model for part of each review. We do not control their availability, behaviour or policies. When either is unavailable the Service posts a neutral check saying so and lets you re-run; it never posts a failing check for a failure of ours.

4. Accounts and installations

  • You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement.
  • You sign up and sign in with your GitHub account, through our authentication provider (Clerk). GitHub is the only sign-in method: the Service has no password of its own, and access to your account, and to the dashboard, depends on access to your GitHub account. You are responsible for your GitHub account's security and for everything done with it in the Service.
  • You may link an Installation only if your GitHub account can access it on GitHub; we check that at setup and again on every dashboard request, and the dashboard shows you nothing GitHub no longer grants you. You are responsible for who in your organization can access the Installation and therefore the dashboard and balance.
  • You may not create accounts or installations to evade limits, and you may not transfer your account without our consent.
  • We may suspend or terminate an account or installation that breaches these Terms, is used for fraud or abuse, or where the law requires it.

5. Plans, reviews and limits

5.1 What counts as a Review

One pull request, one Review. The first completed Review of a pull request uses one credit from the Balance, in the order trial → plan → pack, and covers two reads by the language model: the first, and one more after new UI lines are pushed. Every later push is free. A further read requested by a member with @crocotaste review or the dashboard's Re-run uses one more credit when the model answers it; a request with nothing new to read, and any request the model could not answer, uses nothing. Skipped pull requests (drafts, no UI files, too large to review, or a repository with no design system to check against) and neutral results (a failure of ours, an exhausted Balance) use nothing.

5.2 Trial

Three Reviews are free the first time the Crocotaste GitHub App is installed on a GitHub account. Reinstalling does not start a new trial. No payment details are required and nothing converts automatically.

5.3 Plans

PlanPrice per monthReviews per month
Starter$1925
Team$79120
Business$249400

Every plan is the full product; plans differ only in the number of Reviews. Plan Reviews refill at each billing cycle and do not roll over. Prices are as shown at crocotaste.com/pricing at the time of purchase; a change applies from the next renewal, not to a running cycle.

5.4 Packs

A Pack adds 25 Reviews for $25. Pack Reviews are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and are spent after the plan's; any left at the end of that period lapse.

5.5 Never a charge for going over

When the Balance is exhausted, Reviews pause: the pull request receives a neutral check with a link to billing, nothing is charged, and nothing is billed per use. Reviews resume when the next cycle refills the plan, when a Pack is bought, or when the plan is changed.

5.6 Technical limits

To keep the Service working for everyone we apply limits such as a ceiling on the size of a pull request (a pull request with more than 300 changed files is skipped whole and not read), the number of findings posted per push, rate limits on dashboard actions, and caps on repositories listed in setup. Each limit is shown where it applies.

6. Commands and the learning loop

@crocotaste review and @crocotaste ignore <reason> are honoured when written by a person with push access to the repository (write, maintain or admin, as GitHub reports it). An ignore dismisses the finding for that pull request and posts the next step: for an AI finding, a drafted decision for your DESIGN.md, whose recording is your choice, made by merging it; for a deterministic finding, the token change that would make the value part of your system. Commands from other accounts are ignored.

7. Payment

7.1 Merchant of record

All payments are processed by Polar, the merchant of record for Crocotaste. By buying a Plan or Pack you also accept Polar's terms; Polar uses Stripe for payment processing. Polar issues invoices, handles VAT and sales tax, and hosts the customer portal where you change or cancel a Plan and update a payment method.

7.2 Billing cycle

Plans renew monthly until cancelled. Packs are charged once.

7.3 Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, Polar retries. During that window your access continues. If the payment is not made and Polar ends the subscription, the plan bucket returns to zero; trial and pack Reviews are unaffected.

7.4 Chargebacks

If you dispute a charge with your bank, you remain responsible for the amounts owed; we may pause the Installation's Reviews pending resolution.

8. Refunds and cancellation

8.1 Money-back guarantee (voluntary)

On your first paid Plan you may ask for a full refund within 14 days of the first charge, whatever the reason, even after using Reviews. Write to hello@crocotaste.com. This is a voluntary policy and is separate from your statutory rights in section 8A.

8.2 Otherwise

After those 14 days Plan charges are not refunded, in whole or in part, for unused time or unused Reviews. A Pack is refundable within 14 days of purchase if none of its Reviews has been used; otherwise it is not. Refunds are processed through Polar to the original payment method.

8.3 Cancellation

Cancel a Plan at any time in the Polar customer portal. Access continues until the end of the paid period; the plan bucket then returns to zero. Pack Reviews remain.

8.4 Uninstall

Uninstalling the App stops all Reviews immediately and cancels a Plan at the end of the period already paid for; that period is neither refunded nor cut short. The Installation's records are deleted 30 days later, and the account's Balance with them once no Installation of that account remains; a reinstall within those 30 days keeps both; if the period you paid for is still running, the Plan comes back with them and that cancellation is withdrawn, unless you had cancelled the Plan yourself in the portal. A Balance whose Plan is still running is kept until the Plan ends.

8A. Right of withdrawal (EU consumers)

If you are a consumer in the European Union you have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. Crocotaste is a digital service performed immediately: by completing checkout you expressly request that performance begin at once and acknowledge that, once the Service has been performed (a Review has run on the Installation after the purchase), you lose the right of withdrawal under Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU. If no Review has run since the purchase you may withdraw by writing to hello@crocotaste.com within the 14 days; we refund within 14 days of your notice, to the original payment method, without fees. The voluntary guarantee in section 8.1 applies in addition.

9. Intellectual property

9.1 Ours

The Service (its software, interfaces, documentation, marks and content we wrote) is ours or our licensors'. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use it for your internal purposes. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the Service, remove notices, or use it to build a competing product. The DESIGN.md format itself is an open convention: your file is ordinary Markdown, works without the Service, and nothing here restricts your use of it.

9.2 Yours

You keep all rights in your Customer content. By installing the App you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to read your repositories' contents, process them (including sending the parts described in the privacy policy to our model provider), and post Reviews, solely to provide the Service. The licence ends when the relevant records are deleted under the privacy policy. We do not use Customer content to train models and do not permit our processors to. Our only obligations of confidentiality and care regarding your repositories' contents are those stated in these Terms and the privacy policy; no further duty of confidence is implied.

9.3 Review output

The comments, suggestions, prompts and check-run output the Service posts on your pull requests are yours to use, modify and implement without restriction or attribution.

9.4 Feedback

Suggestions you give us about the Service may be used by us without obligation to you.

9.5 Aggregated data

We may use aggregated, anonymised data about how the Service is used (for example overall counts of reviews and findings) for any lawful purpose. It never identifies you, your Installation or your code.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • install the App on repositories you have no right to, or run Reviews on code you may not process;
  • attempt to extract the Service's prompts, bypass its limits, rate limits or access controls, or probe it for vulnerabilities other than by responsible disclosure to hello@crocotaste.com;
  • use the Service to build a competing product, or resell access to it;
  • interfere with the Service or its infrastructure, or use automated tools against it beyond normal use of the GitHub App;
  • use the Service for anything unlawful, or to harass, impersonate or harm others.

We may investigate suspected violations, pause an Installation, suspend or terminate accounts, and report unlawful activity.

10.1 Export controls and sanctions

You represent that you are not located in, a national or resident of, or controlled from a country subject to EU or US sanctions, and not on an EU, US or UN restricted-party list, and that you will not use the Service in breach of export control or sanctions law. We may deny the Service to anyone we reasonably believe is subject to such restrictions.

Your relationship with GitHub is independent of us; neither of us is a party to the other's agreement with you.

12. Availability and changes

We aim for the Service to be quiet and correct, and when it cannot complete a Review it says so with a neutral check rather than a failing one. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability; maintenance, incidents, third-party outages and events beyond our control may interrupt it. We may change or discontinue features with reasonable notice of material changes. If we discontinue the whole Service we will try to give 30 days' notice by email and refund prepaid fees for the period after discontinuation pro rata; we have no other liability for discontinuation. We are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY FINDING IS COMPLETE OR CORRECT. FINDINGS ARE GENERATED BY SOFTWARE AND A LANGUAGE MODEL AND ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE; DECISIONS YOU OR YOUR TOOLING MAKE ON THEM ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. WHERE THE LAW DOES NOT ALLOW THESE EXCLUSIONS, OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE EXTENT IT ALLOWS.

14. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER THE COMPANY NOR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS OR LICENSORS ARE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR BUSINESS, THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES, OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, FROM ANY FINDING OR ITS ABSENCE, FROM CHANGES MADE TO YOUR CODE BY YOU OR YOUR TOOLING, OR FROM A SECURITY INCIDENT EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT CAUSED BY OUR GROSS NEGLIGENCE OR WILFUL MISCONDUCT, UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR ONE HUNDRED EUROS (€100). NOTHING HERE EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED BY LAW, INCLUDING FOR FRAUD. THE FEES REFLECT THIS ALLOCATION OF RISK.

15. Indemnification

You will indemnify and hold harmless the Company and its affiliates, officers, employees and agents from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms or of law, your Customer content, repositories you installed the App on without the right to, or changes made to your products by you or your tooling on the Service's output. We will defend you against third-party claims that the Service as we provide it infringes a patent, copyright or trademark, provided you notify us promptly, give us control of the defence and assist us at our expense; this does not cover your modifications, combinations with other products, your Customer content, or use after we asked you to stop.

16. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Italian law. Disputes about their validity, interpretation, performance or termination belong exclusively to the Court of Milan. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes the protection of mandatory consumer law of your country of residence (Article 6(2) of the Rome I Regulation), and you may bring proceedings before the courts of your country of residence where that law entitles you to. Before formal proceedings, both sides agree to try to settle the matter by email for at least 30 days. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr; our address for it is hello@crocotaste.com.

17. Term and termination

These Terms apply from your first use of the Service until terminated. You may stop at any time by uninstalling the App, cancelling any Plan in the portal and deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for breach, fraud or illegality, when a payment stays unpaid after notice, or when the law requires, and on reasonable notice if we discontinue the Service. On termination your right to use the Service ends, unpaid amounts remain due, records follow the deletion schedule in the privacy policy, your repositories are untouched, and the sections that by nature survive (2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18) survive. No refund is due on termination for breach.

18. General

If a provision is invalid the rest stands and the provision is read as narrowly as needed to be valid. Not enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them. These Terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement about the Service. Notices to you go to the email on your account; notices to us go to hello@crocotaste.com. Headings are for convenience. We are independent contractors. Our processors are third-party beneficiaries of sections 14 and 15.
